Hen Huggers R Us

Does anyone else have this problem of greedy girls??

Recommended Posts

Hi there, We were wondering if anyone else has the problem of their girls stealing their food?

We daren't eat our beakfast toast anywhere in the vicinity of the hens as they come and jump on our laps to steal it, especially Blueballe our big grey hen, she even jumps up like a dog to try to get to the plate we are carrying.

As you can see form this pic my hubby didn't get to eat his prawn and mayo butty in peace as Saffron actually got up onto his plate!! With Bluebelle stalking on the back of the bench.

Love the photo

but yes - most hens would fall over themselves and each other as soon as they spot food - especially when it doesnt look like mash/pellets

I daren't take any food into the garden while they're running around - I made the mistake of putting a glass of g&t on the decking once and they had their beaks into that too

I can't even take a cup of tea into the garden, as the hens jump straight over the Omlet netting on to my arm if I am carrying anything that may be food.

Be especially careful with hot liquids -- in fact, don't take them near the hens.

Ha ha, I didn't think they would be so interactive!! So it's not just mine then.

Bet they loved the G&T, anyone seen a tipsy hen before. Saff once stuck her beak into the coffee I had on the conservatory floor, she never did it again! Iv'e had toast nicked loads of times off me by Bluebelle, she's the worst.

Ah well you've gotta love they greeeeeeeeedy little blighters havent you.

Great pic! They're such opportunists, aren't they?!

My silvernick is the biggest pig of a chook. She will jump at you if you are holding anything  . Today, DD went in the run to retrieve an egg laid in the henhouse (not in the nestbox which is accessible from outside the run) and as soon as she picked it up Sylvie was jumping at her like an excited puppy, pecking at her fingers, poor girl!
