Guest
I posted a while ago asking for advice on alternative treatments for eczema. Can't remember who it was that suggested faith in nature products but anyway, I bought the aloe vera and tea tree handwash, shampoo and soap. wasn't keen on the soap as it still made me itchy, I think because it made me so squeaky clean it dried my skin out!? So I went back to using Dove soap. The shampoo and handwash have been brilliant though. The eczema on my hands completely cleared up after a cple of weeks of using it! I wasn't sure if it was the FIN products that had done it or the anti bac gel at the hospital. In fact I was convinced it was the hospital gel but I ran out of the FIN handwash recently and so went back to using an ordinary brand and a few days later, the eczema started to come back on my hands! So, I've just ordered some more handwash from FIN and also some neem and propolis shampoo and some lavender and geranium moisturiser (which are supposed to be good insect repellents, I figured they'd be useful when we go camping). so, just to let you know they seem to have worked so they may work for you if you suffer too!? The Dogmother
What moisturiser do you use? i don't normally use moisturiser. You might want to give it a try with a gentle moisturiser then Poet. I've got long experience of Eczema and Psoriasis and it's always worse when my skin is dry; the moisturiser puts a protective layer on the skin and helps to stop anything irritating it. Guest
never used moisturiser before because they've always irritated me but I have high hopes for the FIN one that I've ordered. Not only does it moisturise, it's ingedients are good for insect repelling so fingers x'd
The Dogmother
If your skin is easily irritated, then try REN skincare - it's very gentle and excellent quality.
Tiggy
i get ezcema too & take evening primrose oil, I've used it for 25 years & it really seems to help you need to take enough of it 3gms a day for me. Any simple bland emollient is useful as a moisturiser, keeping your skin hydrated is a must
BarbaraJ
I use doublebase for moisturising. I'm loathe to try anything new as have bought some much over the years and wasted alot of money. I use dermol to wash my hands or No-Germs if i need to wash but no water. Haven't yet found a handwash off the shelf that oes't irritate, any advice of a good one would be helpful? The Dogmother
I find that SLS and SLES are the main trigger for my problems, steering clear of anything containing those seems to do the trick for me.
Blackrocksrock
Try virgin organic coconut oil - do a google search and see the properties - its a great moisturiser and helps with exceme and psorisis too and I use nothing else on my face now. You can cook with it and eat it off a spoon but not done that yet. Worth looking into esp if like me you have very sensitive skin. Oh and don't use soap. Katie
I get bad ezcema on the top of my hands. I find the soaps from Holland and Barrat are really good, in particular - Australian Organics. But I personally think it has a lot to do with water hardness. When i'm at home which is v. soft water, my hands are so much clearer. But when i'm in Bristol (for uni) where the water is a lot harder the flare ups seem 10 times worse .
