Feeding garden birds

Recommended Posts

:D But I'm really glad you did raise it so we can all be clued up now following Annie's link.

I thought the same as you Tessa, based I think on knowing that chunks of bread are the wrong thing to have out when babies & fledglings are around.

Both Hubbie-to-be and I are big birdwatchers and we always feed the birds all year round. It's just important to feed them at this time of time year as they've got youngsters to feed as well as themselves. Just make sure that if you put nuts out they're on in a feeder rather than on the table, that way the parents are giving small pieces to the youngsters and they won't choke, and certainly no bread fullstop! :D

Our garden is being devasted (well in a small way) by sparrows. I saw one chomp on a flower the size of its head and half the flower was hanging out from its beak leaving a half munched flower :(

They're really tame and keep perching really close and stealing bits from our garden and the chicken pen.
