Hellcat
Having mentioned this on another thread and been asked for the details, I would like to share this with all of you. You can get a watering system that hooks up to the handy water butt, and does a slow drip watering from the butt. Might be handy in the days of hosepipe bans. the link is www.twowests.co.uk/TwoWestsSite/product/WBDK.htm We have ordered the 30 mt kit and a few spare bits to do our 3 veg beds and my roses. If you're interested I'll let you know how effective it is.
Guest
I have a much smaller version - it's a hang-up bag. you fill up the bag and there's a pipe that comes out with dripers attached at intervals - with little taps to regulate the speed of dripping.. MIne is supposed to water a row of hanging baskets... I have a similar one for my tomatos - apparently it is better to drip-water them every day than to flood-water them once a week! to be honest - it's a bit fiddly!! Have you got some height on this water butt so as to give you some pressure - and how far away is your furthest drip?? I'd certainly be interested to know how well it works.. Hellcat
Presumably only the standard height, but given that thought, maybe acouple of extra breeze blocks. when he installs it I'll give dimensions. distances and how well it works. Got to be better than a drip feed system from the hose!
Chicken on a mission
I have emailed your link to my mum who is well into her water butts at the mo so I would be glad of the update
Guest
aha! I've just looked at your link, Helen, and the picture shows a bit at the bottom that raises the water butt about a foot off the ground. it also shows a veg plot very close to the house - which (I guess) isn't where most peoples' veg plots are! if t'were on an allotment it's have to come of some kind of a shed - and be very close to the veggies (which is more likely on an allotment) my veg plot, such as it is, is about 30 yards from the house! Hellcat
Ours is the same but we have a playhouse down that end of the garden, and we have put some guttering round it for the little waterbutt to feed the veg plots. We are going to have it about 18 inches/2ft off the ground. Yes, its not ideal if you have a huge garden, but it should do us (although it hasnt arrived yet ) I'm so concerned about the hosepipe ban and water shortage - every little helps! Hellcat
OK. We got the kit and at the weekend the hub installed it around 3 raised veg beds. It works really well! After two days I would recommend it. You can regulate it by turning the tap of the butt half closed, turn it off if its been raining and the ground is already watered and leave it on a really slow drip all night (the best time to water as there is less evaporation. Its a hit. Its a piece of wee wee to install as well.
