The Dogmother
Hi Buffie It's me Rosie I've joined! It's really good that everyone is interested in the battery hen welfare trust! It's great how much money we raised I really hope that the battery hen welfare trust keeps up the good work and keeps rescuing those poor battery chooks! Martin B
Sick! My mates watched a video in Biology today, and the video basically was saying that The Battery Industry is the only reasonable egg industry. I asked them all about it so that I could tell you guys, I have successfully converted my friends to free-range egg buyers! Some of them are regular customers to me! It said that: Chickens liked to live very close to other chickens. They are unaffected by the close confinement! The farmer can guaranteee whether the egg is fresh or not, because free range hens hide their eggs, and no age can be guaranteed. The chicken can live with very little food and water. 5 chickens in a cage is reasonable, they do not need more space! The meat from the broiler industry is of better quality and safer because you can't guarantee what a free-range hen has eaten! The chickens like to have a small space to lay in. They lay better in close confinement! What a pack of lies!
Snowy
Surprising what people will try to justify to themselves in the name of commerce isn't it?
theherd123
Maybe the producers of that film should come and meet my girls when they are rescued and see if they still have the same opinion! The film might have been paid for by representatives of the battery industry - all we can do Martin is try and educate people the best we can - given two images, one of a battery hen and one of a free range hen any sane human would be able to tell you which one is the most healthy. Dont believe the hype.
lizinsa
Do the BHWT produce any videos of their own? Perhaps then it too could be shown in schools to give students a balanced view so they can then make up their own minds. But as Emma says seeing images of them both it is pretty clear which is the happiest and healthiest!
buffie
I wonder if it's an old film. BHWT is hoping to get some positive filming out there. Obviously not battery farms but a rescue day. It's an odd thing in the current climate to put into a school, that's what makes me think it's odd. More reason for meeting the public, rational education. The Dogmother
Actually, that's a thought - I might get one for my mother. Not my sis though - she wouldn't apprecaite it - it's not designer
feemcg
Thats the reason I wouldn't give one to my 'best' friend, Clare - it would need to have Prada on it somewhere
ubereglu
Why is it those type of people just have to have the latest thing????
The Dogmother
If it's not designer, a plasma TV or a 4x4, my sister wouldn't be interested.
feemcg
Then I can't really talk Liz, having ordered a cube (I suppose we do all have 'designer' hen houses )
ubereglu
Not really, I don't think of the eglu and cube being designer items. They're very practical and it just so happens that Omlet are only one of a few plastic hen house makers!
