DD and I are both avid watchers of Springwatch and Autumnwatch. I think Kate Humble has the patience of a saint. I love Bill Oddie, but he is a bit of a dangerous cannon at times!

I loved the film about the pine marten. Fabulous. The ospreys are pretty amazing too. What about the "howmanygreattitscanyoucramintoonenestbox" though?

give me Bill Oddie over that boring Simon bloke any day of the week! Anyway, any kids young enough to be impressionable should be in bed by 8pm! We always had to go to bed at 7.30pm on a school night

He did get a little carried away when narrating a piece about the short life of the stag beetle but it wasn't too bad. I bet you hear worse in the school playground!

I love his enthusiasm! Keep it up Bill

ah! I never know when the school hols are, not having kids myself

I still don't think he was that bad but I missed last night's prog. Was there something particularly naughty last night?

Hey Poet

I really like Simon King! I think he is much better than some of the idiots you get TRYING to film wildlife. I'd be glued to Springwatch if he presented it instead of Bill Oddie. I like Bill as a fellow birder but not how he's presented the past couple of series.

he's too 'wet' for me Lisa, sorry :? I like someone with a bit of personality.

Apropos of Bill. Having read the daily mail piece, seeing it there in stark B&W out of context, it did look a little shocking but in the context of the programme, I didn't think it was that bad.

I think Bill's Yin nicely fits with Kate's Yang. They make a good team and are very watchable, IMO.

ANyway, it's just about to start, gotta run

....but are you watching it with children Poet? That is where the problem is. It is a wonderful programme to watch with littlies but he does make comments which prompt questions. That's OK when watching with very young ones but with slightly older ones it makes slightly uncomfortable viewing.

I don't mind programmes which make youngsters ask appropriate questions but this is not the vehicle for that - this should be a wildlife programme, simple as that!

Bill makes me cringe when he's trying to be funny :?

Only he could have dressed up as a crane  and those feet were out Egluntine :wink:

I loved the way they had to teach the young cranes how to be cranes or they wouldn't survive. Still love the coal tits when the fledged they are so cute and fluffy, and the new wren that has appeared.

I'm starting to get bored of the padding...we're going to show..., what did Simon film...? Back to Simon for a 3rd time to talk about using a slow motion camera.

I love what they show on Springwatch but I can't bear Bill Oddie or Kate Humble. He tries too hard to be funny instead of talking about factual things and I don't know why she is on there except to counterbalance him, she is no wildlife expert.

Simon King on the other hand is passionate about wildlife - anyone see the programme about him a few months ago, 'My Life with Animals'? It made me like him even more.

I think Springwatch is good, but without Bill and Kate it could be brilliant. I usually record it just so I can fast-forward through all that waffle.
