suzie72
We have just ordered our first two chickens but we have decided to go with a cube as we may add more chickens in a couple of years, if all goes well! Is there an issue with the size of eglu related to the number of chickens? I know that the eglu accomodates up to 4, and the cube can house 10, but will 2 chickens find the cube too big? That maybe a really silly question but we are wondering if we should just downsize and go with the eglu. We also wanted to give our chickens a bit more space to run around in. Hope someone can help! cluckbok
Hi ya, If you've got plenty of room for a cube then I personally would go for a cube. It is really too big for just 2 chickens. If I had a cube I would go for about 6 or 7. We've got an eglu with 3 hens in comfortably and we are not sure that we have room for a cube, and we would like more hens. If only our garden was bigger!! Believe me you'll always want more, it's so addictive. P.S Welcome to the forum!!
Egluntyne
I would go for the cube. You are bound to want more chickens after a few months.
suzie72
Thanks for that! Good to know that we are doing the right thing and we are already thinking of getting more chickens, even though we haven't got ours yet! June 12th is the big day, can't wait! Omletina Kyckling
Hi, Definitely go for a cube - if you read on here, you'll see lots of people who buy an eglu and within a year they are buying a cube - I speak from experience, I've only had my eglu for 8 months, with three girls in it and have just bought three more girls and the cube arrives Monday!! suzie72
Thanks Diane, but what do you do with all those eggs? I'd love more chickens but where do all the eggs go?! Sue
Omletina Kyckling
Ah yes, that's what my dad keeps asking....I have a few neighbours who buy them at the moment and I may even have to put a sign up in the end!! Hubby always goes back to Sweden with a backpack full of hardboiled eggs (last time he took raw ones they took them off him, because they contained liquids and weren't in 100ml bottles as per Govt directives!) suzie72
Thanks for all your replies, now we just have to wait for the chickens! Sue

WitchHazel
I currently only have two girls in my cube, although I have a couple more coming in July. I was worried it would be too big for them, but it isn't. I bety you'll want more hens before the year is out.
..lay a little egg for me
I don't have a cube but a "half-pint henhouse" from the Domestic Fowl Trust that is designed for 4 hens and is a bit like a cube. We looked a the next size up (designed for 6 hens) but when we asked the lady she recommended we stuck to the smaller size because she said that in the winter they might get cold in a larger house as they all snuggle up together and the larger version was pretty roomy for 6 let alone 4. No idea whether there is any truth in this or whether it applies to the cube. However....what a great excuse to get more chickens in a couple of months time, eh?
