StephanieSB
Many people don't get on with their neighbours, and find out the hard way how ill they get along when something like "I'm getting chickens" is spoken. I just want to take the time to praise my two sets of neighbours. No potential chicken-owner could have better. We live in a 3 house terrace, a bit isolated from the rest of the road, so we have all had to communicate quite a bit over the years about roof tiles, party walls, pets in gardens, how to handle the fox, fences, holidays, access... all the usual stuff. And we all get along fine -- though we are all of divergent generations, we invite one another over for drinks and such, and are generally on friendly terms. But... I was afraid of what would happen to that relationship when I mentioned chickens. Well, the perfect neighbours just got more perfect... When I told them, one set immediately got excited, told me that they used to keep chickens themselves in the years back. Had two flocks of over 20 birds each back in the days. But never thought they could get more now, as their business has them travelling too much. The other set said, "Oh, we wanted to get this kind of house called an Eglu, have you heard of it? But we didn't know who would look after the hens when we went on holiday, so we talked ourselves out of it. How exciting for you! Now I think we want to get our own! And don't hesistate to ask us to look after them when you go away!" Now... c'mon... these people are perfect. And we're planning to move house next year. Are we mad? -- when we move, I'm taking them with us
Ms Tilytinkle
Don't move - they sound wonderful!!! Yup we're very lucky too, ours enjoy popping in when their family visit to have a look at the chickens (little grandson) & feed them with mixed corn. We're very lucky & i appreciate the generosity of spirit soo much as the chooks have made a right mess of the hemcore & kicked it into their garden as the cube in right on the bounday in between us... and have frequented their garden twice before we put the chicken wire up Another neighbour came round the other evening, just to sit have a coffee, a yakka & to watch the chooks & the sun go down . .next time will make it a PIMMS Ms Tillysquichewastoosicklytoenjoythinkiamgoingoffeggs!!!! Karen & co.
They sound lovely We have nice neighbours too, one side is very quiet and I worry we make too much noise in general but the houses are detatched so hopefully not too bad, The neighbours on the other side called round one day and met our chickens and then got some herself Infact I'm looking after them this weekend as she is away Karen x

We are quite lucky ours have been really nice about it too, they even look after them while we away. Mrs Tily you should try Haddock Quiche like my hub made tonight with the eggs from the girls, just 3 needed, smashing!! and not at all sickly. CluckbokthinksMrsTillyshouldtryhaddockquicheinstead! craftyhunnypie
We live in a detached too. As we are on a corner, the neighbour behind us / round the corner is very good & bought the chickens their own bag of rocket salad the other day! The neighbours actually next door grow all their own veggies & are into the green & organic way of life. Sort of aging hippes. Very nice and quite shy. I'd offer them the chicken poo for their veggies, but it's a bit of a funny subject really. " excuse me mister, do you want some poo"?
