So whose got a George Foreman & do you love or hate it?

Recommended Posts

Well now that I'm back on food I've hit the week when I'm actually allowed to COOK my veg (3 weeks of salad and raw veg to start!). Now I'm a pretty fussy eater and I like to keep my foods seperate. For the last 2 nights I've had a "fry" up ("fry because there has been NO oil just water and non stick pans!) but that has meant using 3 different frying pans to get it all ready together but keep each item seperate.

I'm looking at the George Foreman grill & griddle as a solution, I have some vouchers I can put towards it and Argos seems to be the cheapest place to buy it.

Are they any good?

Are they hard to clean?

Is this an Omlet winner or an Omlet loser - I know I can't get any better recommendation than you guys!

Thats a good recommendation - thanks.

My cooking is made more difficult by my USELESS oven. Its a range cooker - yes its nice having 5 rings and some of them extend to being bigger or smaller ones. BUT the oven is actually not wide enough to take 2 full size oven trays side by side, which means I can't cook any more than I would in a normal oven - but I have to heat a huge one to do so. Believe it or not to cook Christmas dinner for 3 (ok for 2 as I actually wasn't eating then) I still had to put the potatoes in Mums oven as there wasn't room for them and the turkey in mine!

As for the built in grill - well the grill pan is SOOO wide and SOOO heavy that its a nightmare to use - add to that I'm only usually cooking for one or maybe two.

I've reserved the George Foreman - may well come home with it tomorrow after my Saturday charity shop run!

I have a small one with fixed plates. I like to cook asparagus on it. Also Cherry tomatoes, courgettes, peppers and onions. I have used it for meat and fish, but not much. Also for warming/lightly toasting thick slices of bread. I find it easy to clean. I have had small burns occasionally, you have to be careful.

we gave ours away (and we had one of the bigger ones) because I found it to be like the old sandwich toasters, where you could never get the plates and surrounding area properly clean. At the time I couldn;t understand why the plates weren;t removable, as it was a modern 'invention'. However it did tide me over I was able to get shot of the ghlastly built in piece of junk in my kitchen and buy a rather swish Zanussi.

If the newer models allow the plates to be removed I would give it a much higher rating

we have one and use it at least twice a day...we clean it whilst its warm and the kids have no excuse for not eating healthily now, AND THEY DO IT THEMSELVES lol.. it's a great gadget I'm getting mum one for her birthday and my daughter one as a house warming gift... and when you see the fat in the drip tray you'll never look back... go for it.treat yourself I'll never be without one now...also if you have an electric grill...by the time it takes the grill to heat you've heated /cooked and eaten and cleaned up your grill so power saving too

Winner for me as well! I agree, clean it while it's warm (mine doesn't have removable plates, I would love to have those)

I cook salmon in it, cheese toasties (ok, probably not on your diet), courgettes, halloumi cheese, bacon ... it's brilliant.

I got it!

I didn't get one with removable plates as I wanted the grill & griddle option. I cooked James' dinner on it last night and later on mine, cleaned it both times whilst it was hot - deffo less washing up than the grill and 3 frying pans for the same meal the night before!

Oh and its much easier than using the huge grill pan which you can barely lift in and out of the oven.
