Bootscooter Nell
Hello Everyone, I have three chickens which I got on Saturday afternoon. Lisa, Marj and Maggie. Poor Lisa seems to be disliked by the other two for some reason. I feel really sorry for her because she is a lovely girl. The M & Ms are always together and when Lisa comes near them they give her a peck on the neck and squawk at her as they don't like her invading their space. They haven't damaged the skin yet but I'm worried they may take it one step further. They are all in a pen 15ft x 6 ft and can keep their distance most of the time but my concern is when they are all huddled up in the eglu especially in the morning after it is light and I haven't let them out. Is this going to be a permanent problem or will it calm down? I long to see them all huddled up together happily. Also, Lisa laid an egg on the following day after I got her but hasn't laid one since.
Egluntyne
As they have got so much room, things will probably settle. Why not spray her with Tea Tree Spray. It tastes horrible and might do the trick. If things get more serious you can get the big guns out.
Ange1
I've got some tea tree oil Egluntine and I couldn't remember why I had bought it, thanks! Is there anything else that I will be able to use it for?! Cleaning the cube?
Helen&Lee
Hello, As you only got your chooks on Saturday its early days yet - mine were like that for about a week to 10 days before they settled down. Helen
Egluntyne
Yes, and sprinkle a bit in the poo tray to make it smell lovely.
abwsco
I've got some tea tree oil Egluntine and I couldn't remember why I had bought it, thanks! Is there anything else that I will be able to use it for?! Cleaning the cube? Here's a few non chickeny ideas. If you've got a sore throat put a few drops in some water and gargle with it. It also keeps midges and mossies away. Just put a couple of drops on your ankles, wrists, back of neck and in your hair. It's wonderful stuff Hope your chickens settle down soon. We introduced 2 newbies on Satyrday and there's still some pecking going on so they have been spending long days trashing my garden -lol
Carol U
They don't call it "the pecking order" for nothing and somebody has to be at the bottom. However, they normally settle down after a few days and the pecking lessens. By three weeks they will probably all be the best of friends. Try not to worry - it's always like that when you first introduce new hens.

Pecking orders seem to chop and change from the experience I have had so far, but give it time. Sarah.x

I have had my four for about 10 days, one of my girls has been left out and pecked if she gets to close since day 1.. it has gradually improved over the past few days so think its just a question of time.. Sounds like your girls just need time too.. if it gets worse then you are in the right place as there is a world of wisdom from the experienced members on here! I am learning a lot! Rhapsody
Yup I have the same prob with Edgie. Tonight they have even chased her out of the Eglu after bedtime she spends all day getting beaten up or hiding. Its awful I hve anti-peck rings on which worked for me with the others but they are still going for her, I'm getting Bumpers from Wernlas and have her drenched in Ukadex, Purple spray, and Tee Tree Oil. Its such a shame as the other ex-batts are doinfg really well, even free-ranging with the others fine. Perhaps someone will come along with bright ideas, I'm all out
Gallina
This sounds like normal pecking, rather than vicious pecking. You just have to let the hens get on with it. Only intervene if it gets more serious. I would invest in a handful of bumper bits, just in case.

Rhapsody
Thing is I've done all this before when I introduced Biz, and thought I knew all the tricks but this systematic bullying by all other 3 ex-batts has got me beat.
