WitchHazel
Been watching too many tv chefs and bought some broad beans today. I have yet to try them cooked, ut raw they are horrible (despite what the chefs say). Can I share this uncooked delight with the Girls? And do I have to take them out of their pods (for the girls I mean. No I didn't eat the pod myself). Thanks for your help
Egg Lou
Hmm tend to agree as they are not my bag either I have fed them to horses and tortoise in the pod so would guess they would be ok for chickens.. Someone else may have already tried?
Gamebird
We grow our own broad beans and they are delicious but I would never eat them with their pods left on. Tough and tasteless. We have never tried giving them to our chickens either so I too would be interested to know if anybody else has.
Snowy
I offered the pods to mine but they turned their beaks up at them. I haven't tried them with the beans though - they are MINE!
Egluntyne
They are lovely freshly picked, and with their little leather jackets removed.
BarbaraJ
Ahh so they are best with the skins removed? how long do people cook them for?
Egluntyne
3 or 4 mins. The leather jackets make them bitter I find.
BarbaraJ
i was going to make a nice parsley sauce for mine, someone said thats nice!
Seagazer
I think I need a receipe to disguise them as I don't like them. My hubby loves them and I have had them in my last two veg boxes - yuk. I tried taking the jackets off but I still don't like them. That and beetroot, the only veg I can't stand.
Olly
yum, jackets off, cooked for just 3 or 4 mins and then parsley sauce And my girls scoffed up a couple of pods when I threw them into the run!
