A funny thing happened on the way to...

Recommended Posts

..work this morning.

Long story short - my washing machine has broken so on the way to work each day I have been stopping at at my business partner's house and using her machine. Most mornings the neighbour's cat runs over as I get out of the car and has a bit of mooch around my ankles. So this morning, as I was opening the door, I felt something furry wrap itself around my ankle - I look down to see what I first thought was a rat wrapped around my leg

I then let out a shriek and started hopping around before realising it wasn't a rat but a ferret!

The ferret was determined to stick around and kept running round my feet so I am hopping around trying not to stomp on the ferret ( I also happened to have taken a call on my mobile as I got out of the car so my friend Lou could hear the shriek and thought I was under attack - which in a way I was :? )

The next door neighbour came rushing out too to see what was going on at which point the ferret made off at great speed under the hedge.

So, while the neighbour called the RSPCA I tempted it out from the hedge with a strawberry (I have no clue what they do eat) from my lunch box and managed to wrangle it into my laundry basket - I was rewarded with a nip but luckily no blood was drawn!

I left the neighbour with the ferret safe inside a pet carrier to wait for the RSPA to collect at some point.

Poor little thing must be someone's pet so I hope they manage to reunite them

We have had a ferret or two in our garden. The lad at the rear of our garden keeps ferrets and when we got the chickens they escaped and started paying us a visit at every oportunity.

My daughter spotted the first one and came in to tell me their was a weasle in the garden

We now have chicken Fort Knox in the garden and they have improved their ferret housing.

I got really worried about the whole thing at the time because after returning the ferrets on three occasions didnt get so much as a thankyou, never mind any assurances of them keeping them under lock and key.

Sweet looking things, but in this case quite savage. One bit my hubby through his motorbike gloves!

They frequently have stories of me being late due to stopping to make sure the ducklings and moorhens cross the road safely and to see the free range bantams that I pass foraging in the hedgerows

Good job I'm the boss

PS Poet - how did you get your WeeMee loaded as your avatar?

Hilarious AMO

I have the same thing Lynda - I hadn't realised that the people living behind me had ferrets until I was getting ready (OK, runnning late  ) to go out and the neighbour knocked to say that she'd seen a ferret in my garden. I thought that she'd lost the plot and was pottering around the garden in my finery.. no ferret to be seen.

Went back upstairs to get ready when Phil called from the front door - he was standing there with a ferret in his arms, all friendly-like. We bunged the little chap in the cat box and popped it round to the neighbour with apologies before we rushed off. Turned out to be called Trigger and lives at the end of the garden with his friend. The owner now always lets me know when they get loose so that I can fetch the girls in.

Well the ferret is safe and sound with the RSPCA now. The chap who collected him reckons he is a pet as it was clean, well fed and comfortable

(a little too much for my liking  ) around humans.

The neighbour has made enquiries in the village and it seems the little ferret made its way through Bloxham during rush hour this morning  very brave of the ferret - he must have 9 lives. Some builders tried to catch him but he got away and they gave up the chase. Must have been the strawberry he couldn't resist

It did give me the opportunity to wind up hubby who thought I was bringing home Brian to stay for a while
