Like the suggestion of burying miles away from chooks to tempt old Foxy away!

Just so you know, once the Foxwatch was repositioned to cover the area the "gunk" was buried, he gave up trying to dig it up, so not really a conflict/prob with the two products.

I do wonder though whether rats would be a problem with burying it too?

I made a hole in my compost heap and tipped in the contents (urrrgh  ) and quickly covered it over, holding my breath throughout. There was no smell at all, and nothing's had a go at digging it out. But if I didn't have a compost heap, I don't know what I'd have done - maybe find a friend or neighbour with one and offer it as if you're doing them a favour

I have been using this product and it really is brilliant at catching the flies, I can seriously stand there and watch them queing to get in, I dread to think what the fly situation would be like without it. I started using it before the warm weather set in so I don't know what it would be like otherwise.

I had excellent customer service from Andy too. The ties on the lids wern't moulded properly making it impossible to hand. A quick call and he popped replacements in the post recieved the next day.

The smell is pretty disgusting, especially on a warm day. I am concerned about foxes being attracted by them, as Eglutine had 2 taken by them a while back. The bait contains the scent of Carrion, which I presume is from a plant which produces this smell. I googled Carrion and I found that it is the the word to describe rotting animal flesh. No wonder it stinks/flies love it/foxes are attracted

Mine is brimmed with flies and really needs changing but I can't bring myself to open it. I feel sick even thinking about it!

Firstly, I'm sure the instructions that came with my 3 flitraps said not to put them near livestock - and I'm sure it gave a recommended distance, but I can't remember what it was.

Secondly, my 3 traps have been filling up very quickly and were teeming with live flies inside, so I braved it at the weekend, dug a big hole and emptied 2 - it was disgusting and what horrified me was that it was obvious that the flies had actually been breeding in the flitrap - maybe this was why there was such a sudden increase in the flies inside! When I took off the lid, I was engulfed in a swarm of undead flies!!!

I still have my third one to empty - I have tried filling it with more water through the holes trying to drown the ones that aren't dead - and the liquid is teeming with maggots that won't die! Not looking forward to taking the top off!

So.... Did I leave it too long before emptying them? When should they be emptied to prevent the flies breeding in them?

I'm wondering that too. I chucked mine out for the refuse collection today as I couldn't stomach emptying it. There were so many maggots in there the flies are obviously mating :vom: It stinks and I'm sure it's attracting flies that we wouldn't normally have. I've got another holder and powder left so I think I'm going to put it up at the other end of the garden and see what the fly situation is like around the eglu without it hanging near by. Once this one is full and dumped I'm going to give it a miss I think, not very envirmentally friendly having to put it out for the refuse collection but not much else I could do with it.

I keep my garden clean daily as they are free ranging almost all of daylight hours so the eglu run doesn't get much poo and the tray gets changed regually as well. I think this should be enough to keep them at bay anyway.

Was going to get some citronella for the tray but not sure where you can buy it in liquid form. Anyone know?
