There was a bit of interest in this in another thread,so I thought I would post here about it too,with an extra photo.

 

It was driving me mad that the hens liked to perch atop the Glug & dip their feet in it,usually pooing in the water for good measure while they were there

I tried various methods of discouragement,to no avail.

 

Hubby has now come up with a sort of cover for the Glug, which is sloped & slippy so the hens can't get a grip on it.

It works a treat, & the water is now nice & clean all the time

Its still easy to fill the Glug from behind, & is wide enough to cover 2 Glugs for when we go away at weekends.

That's a really good idea Clare.

 

My Girl's dustbath is fairly close to the Superglug, and it gets fulol of carp. I can't really move the Glug (as it would be under a perch almost anywhere else in the Run), so I might get dH to have a go at making a cover like yours.

Thats a great idea! Like you, half of my girls prefer to drink from the top and the water gets filthy. We have some polycarbonate left so will try that at the weekend - hopefully will keep water cleaner for whent hte neighbours look after the girls when we are away.
