Veg models

Recommended Posts

In an attempt to keep James focused and behaving (few issues at the moment!) we are working on projects for the village show - I would like him to enter enough categories to have a shot at the cup for his age range - I don't think he will get it but its a nice goal. (one category is handwriting which he is rather poor at!)

One category is veg models. Last year he made a cauliflower sheep - we are looking for inspiration again this year. I saw some ladybirds made out of tomatos and blueberries on the innocent site but they were about hte only thing I found when I searched.

Any pointers or even better pictures would be appreciated!

I saw one this morning on the notice board at Jake's school - and I thought of you!

It was an aubergine - made into a penguin!

It was standing on it's round end and a bit had been shaved off the 'front' to make the white bib. It must have been brushed with lemoon juice to keep it white. The stalk end made it's beak.

I can't remember how the rest was made.....sorry.

Those are brilliant. I like the sheep best (but the fish are a close second as they are so floaty).

Our local branch of Cargo had a big selection of postcards with vegetable animal pictures - might be worth taking a look if you have one nearby.

Wow! I love those things! My 2008 Calendar, is of them!

It has mushroom snowman with spring onion skis, for december and my other personal favorite, a mushroom man (they're not all mushroom they just seem to be my favourites) in a pomergranet balloon!

Also a melon bus, cut out windows with radish heads and cucumber wheels!

Lesley was right I forgot my own thread!

Cathy there are some great ideas there - I love the penguins (surprise surprise!) AND they look easy enough for James to make. We did a cauliflower sheep last year.

Maybe a couple of penguins would be a good way to go - I'll look at the price of Aubergines in Waitrose tomorrow. Falling that I think a tortoise from carrot or corgette could be a goer.
