Which is the most friendly

Recommended Posts

Hi Yolky

Are you getting one of each?

When I got my first two (one of each) the pepperpot was the inquisitive one and the ginernut was the laid back one.

I then got four more ginernuts and two more pepperpots.

One of the gingernuts is very friendly and the others friendly from a distance.

The two pepperpots are very standoffish.

So I quess its all down to persnality :D

Thanks all, as you can see from my sig I have gone for the extra gingernut. I have also asked Omlet that if they are able to bring me two that look as different as possible if it is possible on the day :D (will help the littlies)

We all have our loyalities, don't we? I sort of like my Pepperpots to be a bit stroppy (without being nasty).

I suppose that psycopaths may exist amonst hens, but I would guess that they are very exceptional.

I have been "happy as Larry [will you please identify yourself, Larry]" with the Pepperpots.

How do their egg sizes compare, eh? Mine may be bigger than yours.

Standing up for my lovely girlies!

But wishing you every happiness, Yolky!

I have a gingernut and a pepperpot as well as Chikky the light sussex cockerel, and whilst chikky is the most friendly..he was hand reared by me from a day old, I think the lovely LouLou (gingernut ) is the friendliest of the girls in so far as she stands closer to me, is the first in for a stroke when ever I`m over at their pen and doesnt flit off when I stretch out a hand to touch them or pick up.

I love them all but I suspect the gingernuts pip the post in that direction?

They are all friendly but my 2 pepperpots are definitely the friendliest. They sit on my lap to see what is going on if I am doing something in their run! My gingernut was much smaller than the pepperpots when she arrived and initially was the friendliest but she has got a tiny bit shyer (is that a word!) unless she sees a pot of corn when she then flies up to grab it!

I think as someone else said it is down to personality....plus they can be different on different days. They are all lovely, always pleased to see me, will all feed off my hand/out of a pot and all do their best to trip me up by running round my feet!

Enjoy your new girls....whatever you get you'll end up with more!!:lol::D

With my first two Omlet hens, the Pepperpot was the leader and also more friendly; but with my second pair, the Gingernut was the tamer. So I don't think there is an answer to this question.

If you can't decide, Gingernuts seem to lay bigger eggs, and more often: but with experience of only two of each, I am not sure if my survey is valid.

Gingernuts also show up better in the garden in winter.

I have Bovans Nera - (which is a pepperpot really as that is the name Omlet give them) and a Calder Ranger (gingernut). The Bovans Nera - Emily - is the friendliest, she follows us everywhere and chats away all the time. The other one -Chirp - is a coward and is scared of everything.

I think it's pot luck really!

I've only had my 2 for two weeks, the pepperpot is the most bold, she comes to the end of the run as soon as I'm out in the garden. The gingernut is very timid and won't come to me yet. I'm hoping this will change in time and once they are able to free range when we move house and have a bigger garden in a few weeks time.

My two are different, Opal has white feathers on her tail and along her wings and Ruby is ginger all over with a few black feathers on her tail!

That was down to luck though, they were the 2 the Omlet man picked out! :D

I don't know how I will last out. The husband is away from tomorrow till Weds so I won't even have him to bore with chicken talk

Just come on here - you won't bore anyone with your chicken talk! Those pictures were taken when we'd had them a few days, they look massive compared to that now!
