12 year old away on school trip for a week :(

Recommended Posts

Son is on an adventure holiday in the South of France at the moment. I miss him, and he told me he would miss me too, but I know he's having a great time! He's been on holiday with school before and each time doesn't ring home. I prefer it that way as it just reminds them they're not at home!

It's only natural to worry, my Mum still worries about my brother and me and we both left home over 20 years ago. We worry because we love them!

Someone once told me the most important thing you can give your children is roots to grow and wings to fly!

I know it's not quite the same, but my 11 yr old DS goes away to school in September as a weekly boarder!

He's a confident little man, who's been away with Scouts & school loads of times (well about 7!! ), but he still kisses me, cuddles up & sits on my lap even when his friends are around, so still my baby boy!

Although I never thought I'd send any child of mine to boarding school, Daddy went there, so did my stepson so there's a bit of a family tradition evolved! It was also the only school which felt right for Toby, the others all had something niggly (or glaringly!!) wrong as far as we were concerned.

He's happy with the idea especially as we've now found some friends who will also be going there, who we have met up with a few times and are having several days out with in the holidays.

Am off now for a quick sob & to tidy up the spare room - oh joy!

Sha x :cry::?:roll: !!!

It was really hard when my ED went to PGL in yr6 she is the entertainer of the family and adored by her younger siblings. She had a fab time talked non stop for the evening that she came back and was a toal zombie the next day when she had a tap dancing exam needless to say she didn't do so well

When DS went his week last year it wasn't too bad and I didn't cry until he came back, when I just had to give him a big hug as he got off the coach but he didn't seem to mind. He had a great time too considering he is a loner who likes his own things around him.

He also went away on a yr 7 bonding trip on his big sister's birthday last year but he made time in the evening to ring her up and sing happy birthday down the phone to her in front of his friends which really touched me. :D

ED is going to EuroDisney next week for a couple of action packed days, but it isn't so bad these days because we are used to her being away at sleepovers etc.

He will be back soon and he will appreciate you all the more for a couple of days and you will have loads of washing

My children's school start residentials in Year 3 - yes, that's 7 years old :shock:

You can imagine my feelings when I waved my little boy off for the first time, seriously he can't even find his uniform in the morning yet LOL - but you know what.......he was fine. He came back covered in mud and wearing someone else's underware  but he had a great time and can't wait for next years trip.

I guess what I am trying to say is, the pain is all our's, we suffer the worry because that's our job as parents - our children on the other hand are carefree, ready for adventure and wondering what all the fuss is about :D:D:D

When my ES was 18, he and some friends drove from where we lived in Germany down to the south of France. He was the only one who drove and this was in the days before mobile phones. He phoned from a call box to let me know he was there safely so then I was OK until they were driving back. That night I was on tenderhooks and then the phone rang at 2am :shock: .

I ran down the stairs and picked it up with my heart thumping and racing but could only hear a faint noise at the end of the line. So I am shouting down the phone 'Are you alright?' 'Have you had an accident' 'Are you OK?' This went on for a couple of minutes until I realised it was an obscene phone call.:twisted:. I was more annoyed at the fright it gave me than the pervy phone call itself.

Loopyloo, just noticed, we've both got a Jessie and a Poppy! Brill names for hairy babies!!

BTW, you wouldn't be a very good mummy if you didn't worry about your babies - 2 legged, hairy or feathered ones!

Sha xx

I guess your right there!

Yes Poppy and Jessie are my other girls, true little treasures. :D

Thank you all for understanding, I am finding it hard, I wont lie, I cant help thinking, is he ok etc etc. But I know if I dont hear from them he's ok.

Rona your post made me laugh!, what a time to get an obscene phonecall!.
