Has anyone a mirror in the run?

Recommended Posts

I really have no idea. My Mum had a budgie with a mirror in his cage, and it sent him completely bonkers  . I don’t know if a chicken would react the same but I’m imagining it probably wouldn’t bring peace and tranquillity to the run – I’m only guessing and I’m sure there will be someone on here soon with info on chickens rather than budgies!

Yes, we put a mirror in the run, having read on the Forum about tips to make sure your chickens don't get bored!! I bought a round mirror about 6" diameter (from the pet shop) and hung it in the run...

All three of them went completely beserk... Screeching... Pacing up and down and they wouldnt go anywhere near it - and within an Omlet run plus converter, it meant that three chickens shared about one foot square of run... This hysteria didnt stop until I took it out again...

So there is no longer a mirror in the run, nor a hanging bag with tit-bits in - same thing happened then too!!

 Hmm mixed reviews then, I too had heard that it might amuse them, but I don't want to freak out, which they did when I hung a bird feeder from the ceiling of the run to but veggies in etc, so I think I too, will buy a cheap one like ANH just in case, i guess Pets at home might have a bedgie one that will be made to clip on the side of a cage/run?

Thanks everyone

i have an old pine mirror in their run, 20inches x 12 inches

they did find it quite interesting in the beginning but now are not too bothered

the new girls (18 week ) love to run in there in the morning and check their feathers before they freerange for the day

i often find the new girls just sitting infront of it, strange i know

I have a cheap 5" mirror fro Tesco (£1.99).. the girls loved it to start with and had little chats with themselves in turn.. novelty worn off a little now with others but Freckles can often be found tilting her head to check out reflection

I bough a relatively cheap double-sided mirror from SuperDrug (about three or four quid). It has a clip-on fitting which makes it easy to attach to the run. I know that they use it because of all the kiss-me-quick beak marks which have to be cleaned off!

I've got a similar one from wilko for a couple of quid. It created quite a stir to start with - my skylines were squaring up to it, frilly neck feathers and everything, and then looking behind to see where the imposter chicken was. They pretty much ignore it now though.

My girls love their mirror. How could ANY girl be without one? :)

They all gather round and check themselves out all the time.

I got mine in the 99p store and is about 12" round with a nice plastic green frame to match the eglu. I hold it onto the run with a plastic cable tie.

Just gives them something to do when I'm out and the hanging cd didn't get any interest at all.

Must mention when I first took it into the garden one of them did freak out a bit, but she's the one who hogs it the most now so no harm done
