I'm from the US and have seen people on the forum talk about an allotment...What exactly is an allotment?

It is a piece of land that you can lease from the local town council to grow your own vegetables and flowers on

Ahhhh...I see. We have something similar here, I think we call it a "Victory Garden" most are found in major cities where yards or gardens are the size of postage stamps.... Thanks for the explanation I was feeling out of the loop.

That reminds me of a story...While in Rome we were taking a tour and our tour guide (a lovely italian women, who learned english in the UK) asked our group if anyone spoke english. This big american guy raises his hand and she asks where he is from "I'm from Ohio pretty lady, it's in the United States"! to which she responded, "Then you speak ameican not english"!
