TAJ
I thought I had read they were too high in oil for them - I might be wrong. Tracy

Mrs Frugal
The wild birds will love them though, Debbie so if you've got any bird feeders, put them in there for the greenfinches, goldfinches, chaffinches and blue tits. They will be so grateful for them.

Mrs Frugal
What about cabbages/kale/whole heads of broccoli/cauliflower tied up in the run. Mine absolutely love them and will peck at them throughout the day.
Steph101
Mine like lettuce, coriander, sweetcorn, spinach, rocket watercress, museli, grapes, raisins tomatoes, cucumber, broccoli, cabbage leaves... not much they don't like! They will have pasta, bread, potatoes and stuff too but I try to restrict these as I think they can be a bit too filling, especially earlier on in the day, as it they won't have any appetite then for pellets. Try not to over do it with the fruit and veg though - results in runny poos!
Cinnamon
Re the sunflower seeds, I give mine those sunflower hearts sometimes - are they OK for them to have?
Egluntyne
They are OK for an occasional treat. I give them a few in winter.
Valkyrie
I tried growing Pak choi this year they were looking good but suddenly the whole lot went to seed. Tested some of them out on the girls - result shredded to pieces and only a stalk with flowers left on the top! I am having to ration them now! quickcluck
Can they have apples? Or are the pips dangerous for them?
Snowy
Mine love the apple cores that the children leave - there is never anything left over!

Rona
If you are able to dig them up a turf of grass, they will love that to scratch about in, They'll eat the grass and any worms and insects that are in it.
Cinnamon
Have you thought about a **Peckablock** These are great - they last for ages & really keep them busy. I have just stocked up on a few for when we are on holiday & also for when we get back & I collect my new hens
Miss Potter
Is it Ok to give them cheese? It is my girls' favorite thing (well, up there with grapes and porrige). Lucy is now getting PICKY and will turn her beak up at maize flakes and apple!! If she doesn't like what is in my hand she will look at it, look at me and then wipe her beak carefully on my hand as if to say no. it really amuses me. jomaxsmith
Debbie, A really solid cabbage will last them a while - try to get one of those that is full of tightly packed layers (think they're just sold as white cabbage). I tend to half one and my 3 hens are busy at it for most of the day, a whole one would take them a while to get into so would keep them busier longer. Abbey Road Girl
Have you thought about a **Peckablock** Thanks for the link, Ever-Helpful Egluntine, but can you please tell us what it's made of? Looks a bit like Aubiose and styrofoam combined. Could be floor sweepings or anything! The shop really doesn't say. Do you know if it would take the place of layers pellets to some extent? Cinnamon
It won't take the place of their regular feed, but they peck away at it as a supplement. Its very, very hard & it takes them ages to get thorough - it looks like very compacted grains & layers mash,on a stick.
