Lets play guess the breed.....

Recommended Posts

....Ok you knowledgeable lot, having had a guess as to which sex they are (I've changed my mind on two of them several times  ) can I ask you to play guess the breed? I bought the following eggs, A copper black maran (which I can identify easily) a cream legbar (a girl! :D ) then I also got a buff orpington, a buff sussex and a buff columbian brahma (or I thought I did)

So, the question is, of those three, I thought I'd identified the brahma as I saw the egg he/she came out of, BUT that appears now to be my buff sussex!!

It actually doesn't matter what they are really, as long as they're girls although we're NOT now going to be eating the boys as I have homes for ALL boys I end up with (a lifetime of eating and "looking after" hens awaits them  )

Here they are, here's the cream legbar who is SO pretty, getting her crest and feathered up beautifully! This is Bumble...

This is Sooty a copper black maran, boy or girl? I kep changing my mind, got a bigger comb than the others but also has tail feathers which I thought came later on boys...?

Now, the sandy one in the front I could have sworn came from the brahma egg, but she (or he) looks suspiciously buff sussexish to me?

And this is the one I thought was supposed to be buff sussex! Is this my brahma do you think, and if so is this what buff columbians look like as cheepy chicks, or have I got something else entirely?

And that just leaves this one (not a very good picture) which I guess is the buff orpington?

And just for good measure here's a gratuitous shot of me dawg Delilah doing her best Great Dane impression

Hi Mrs B, Im afraid I dont know enough to be much help, But I wanted to say delilah is gorgeous :D:D

I think going by pics you've guessed right and the bottom one does look like a littler version of my Orp who was 8 weeks when i got her.

Sorry i wasnt much help. :)

Ours are nearly 6 weeks old that's all. Too old to eat if you're an intensive farmer, mind you you wouldn't get much more than a sandwich out of ours!

I hope our legbar lays eggs the same colour as the one she hatched from, lovely pale bluey green! I'm still just not sure wether or not I've got a Brahma (which I really really really want :D )

I'll give it a go.

First Pic: Cream Legbar girl

Second pic: maran boy, judging by the impressive comb.

Third pic: Buff Sussex girl

Forth pic: hmmmm, looks a bit too light to be a buff columbian chick...but it does have the right comb, so it could just be the age, here is a link to what they are supposed to look like as a chick: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Wyand/BuffColWyChik.JPEG

Anyway, I think It's a girl.

Fifth pic: No idea . Looks like some sort of Wyandotte judging by the comb....although it has got feathered legs so it could be crossed with a brahma or chochin? Looks like a boy by the lack of feathers.

And the last pic, yep I would say buff orpington girl.

xx
