Cinnamon
I have just been down the garden to pick my peas for supper tonight & every last pod on the plants has gone No empty pods on the ground & no signs of nibbling either. Its so annoying - I have been meaning to harvest them all week, but waited until today - the plants were heavy with full pods just 2 days ago I am flabbergasted! Lesley
Oh! do you suspect human or animal?
theherd123
Whatever has been eating your peas has also been eating my courgette! A mouse maybe?
Cinnamon
The pods, & there were a LOT of them, were just snapped off,so I suspect pigeons or mice The garden is pretty much human proof,so it must be someting furry or feathery
Christian
Hate to mention it but rabbits? I have been having a nightmare with them
Cinnamon
They would have to be good climbers Christian - these pea plants were tall Actually, the dog keeps most things out,& the garden is boardered by a stream on 2 sides,so I don't think bunnies are the problem. Valkyrie
Streams usually equals ratties! The pigeons have ignored my peas this year (so far - touch wood). I have seen evidence of slugs/snails and I think Mr and Mrs Woodmouse have been having a taster of a few - nibbled ends, but the pods are still on the plants and the bumper crop this year (that would be a first) can probably cope with a few losses. At our rat infested allotment years ago, the rats bit off the pods so that they dropped below for collection - they carry the whole thing down their runs, so it sounds as though they could be the marauding culprits that are pinching your peas. Can you see any signs of a regular little path/tunnel around your veggie patch?
