Busy start to the summer hols

Recommended Posts

.....we've had a lovely day today and just wanted to share it. My two girls argue from the minute they wake up in the morning until the second they go to sleep, mornings before school can be AWFUL so have really been looking forward to no school run. Yesterday after an average day we had an impromptu BBQ to celebrate the fact that it didn't rain yesterday  so that was lovely - lots of friends round. Then today, the girls went to a birthday party and I managed to "win" two sofas and an armchair on Freecycle. Our old ones have had just too many drinks spilt, mud, dog hair, cat hair, mud, (and unmentionable things courtesy of smallest boy  ) so they had to go - no amount of cleaning made any difference. So I am now sitting on one of two blue M and S sofas, much neater and tidier than the old green things! Then, having turned the front of our driveway into something resembling a council dump (will take several trips to get rid of the old sofas) we went to the village green to watch Brass on the Grass - brass band on the green. It was fab, THEN took the children to see their dad playing guitar at the local pub, it's every other Sunday evening and normally they've got school so never get to go and watch. Sorry for the long ramble, not a very exciting post but we've had a really nice day - three tired children sleeping sweetly and more planned for tomorrow. I know some mums and dads dread the holidays, but I LOVE them, we can't afford to go away, but even though they drive me up the wall, I LOVE being with my kids!

Takes me back many years, know the feeling. Have a lovely summer break with your 3 kiddies. I loved being with my 3 children when they were small. Cannot get rid of them now they are all in their 30's. Love their company, they all love ours. Thats what life is about :D

We had a good beginning to our holidays too. It started with a visit from my BIL & SIL on their way to Cornwall, they stayed over on Friday night and we played Buzz on the Playstation with much hilarity.

When they left we did some leisurely cooking and had a chilled out rest os Saturday. Sunday morning was spent at the local car boot sale with loads of purchases made followed by a swim and a good Sunday lunch with all home grown veg.

Top Gear in the evening then kids to bed and a big glass of red for us.

OH was a bit down about having to go to work today while we go playing badminton and for a swim again, it is the only time we make good use of our health club membership.

I love having the children at home in the holidays too. I do find though that its increasingly difficult to find things to do now that they are older. i love farms, zoos, castles and the countryside, as did they, but now they want cinema, bowling and gokarting etc (all VERY expensive).

A couple of years ago I volunteered at our local greyhound rescue centre during the summer holidays and they said to bring along the children too, they loved that and got really involved with feeding and mucking out etc and I also thought it was good lesson for them to learn that not all work has to be paid work.

We drove through Bisleyt the other day and saw a sign for Bertie's Birthday bash!

Nothing to do with you Mrs B??

It WAS!! "Bertie" is my OH's nickname (real name Kev, long story) the Bisley Bash is an annual live music event, we raised £3950 for local charities, this year was one of the best and we were VERY lucky with the weather - only one short shower! 7 live bands in about 6 hours, it was FAB! If you're passing next year you must come, and if youre passing again give us a shout and pop in for lemon drizzle cake! (and the possibility of a small snifter of vino tinto! )
