Olly
Jasper Fforde (mentioned above) ... I love these but they are a bit of an acquired taste. I appreciate that this isn't to everyone's taste, but my favourite humorous book is 'Diary of a "Ooops, word censored!"ody' by George and Weedon Grossmith ... it was written in about 1900 (I am guessing) but it never fails to amuse me! redhotchick
Ooo yes, Jasper Fforde, I love Thursday Next, the central character in one of his series. It wouldn't surprise me if this was made into a television serial soon.
little chickadee
Thanks everyone - keep them coming - I'm making a list! I've managed to reserve a couple of Carole Matthews, Jill Mansell and a Deric Longden on cd. I've actually already read a lot of the suggestions, so it shows we're on the same wavelength. I just really fancy something that isn't too heavy at the moment. Recently I've read Chesil Beach The Kite Runner Brick Lane The lovely Bones The Time Traveller's wife Affinity The Laments All interesting, (most) enjoyable, books, just fancied a break!!! I've found you all very helpful suggesting books in the past so hopefully I'll enjoy these new ones. Unfortunately I need to have stuff on Cd, so some I'm not able to get hold of but all look really interesting Thanks
clootie
Piers Morgan - "The Insider" followed by "Don't You Know Who I Am?" Both very funny books. They are his memoirs of his time as Editor on the News of The World and other papers and of his time on the tv show America's Got Talent It records his dealings with celebrities and his treatment of and by them - quite incredible actually but very, very funny. gazpachodragon
another vote for pete mccarthy here. a bit like bill bryson, but i think he's much much better (unfortunately dead though). and if you like tony hawks, try dave gorman and danny wallace's books, as they're also about 'stupid boy bets'. also starter for ten by david nicholls has tears running down my face from laughing every time i read it. have you read curious incident of the dog in the night time? sooooo funny (the line about spakkers and rockets is still the funniest thing i've ever read), and co-incidentally the omlet book club book for august! also, have a look at people you find funny and see if they have written an autobiography. frank skinner, billy connolly (written by his wife), tommy steele and rolf harris' books were all fab. and a lot of comedians write fiction or have collected columns published too (jo brand, maureen lipman, stephen fry etc)
