sparkysmum
Hi, My daughter brought home a few shells from our holiday in Tiree. She has oainted the frame of an old mirror and would like to decorate it with her shells. We can't think how to stick them on - any ideas. Thanks for reading Allison & Hazel and the motley crew
Snowy
I'd use clear pasty glass paint It's like glass paint but thicker so you can apply the colour and get a textured effect, but it also comes in clear so can be used like a glue. It could also be used to paint a thin layer over the shells to bring out their shine and colour. I'll see if I can find some to show you. Hang on a tick. Snowy
Hm, can't seem to find it. Looks like the one I used to use is discontinued - if you have a craft shop nearby it's called Pebeo Gel Crystal, they might still have some in. It can also be used on wood. Mrs Frugal
I used a hot glue gun and that worked really well but it gets VERY hot (I know because I burned myself ). The shells didn't come off though and the mirror is still going strong after 12 years!
sparkysmum
Hi Snowy and Kate, Thanks for getting back to me. I think I'll try the glass pasty paint first. I don't fancy my chances with a glue gun, bound to burn myself at the very least. Thanks again Allison & Hazel x
Lesley
I've used a glue gun for shells as well - and have the burns to go with it
craftyhunnypie
normally silicone is good for this. Or Uhu glue. I think you can get cool melt glue guns too. Emma.x
Geoid
Most new hot glue guns don't get very hot (I was using one yesterday and no burns although I think there was some toxic fumes )
