Omlet netting -does it work

Recommended Posts

Hi

:D My chickens are coming in 3 weeks - is it worth getting Omlet nettings to keep them off the veg patch or will other netting do?

Also can the chickens get over, under or around Omlet netting?

Has anyone experienced chicken Houdini's ! :!:

I don't know how it compares to other netting, but we haven't had any escapees yet. They can, however, stick their necks quite far through the holes so make sure it's far enough from any precious plants! I had to move my netting further from my tomatoes and my sweet peas recently.

They can get underneath it, if it's not pegged down/stretched quite tightly. Use tent-pegs to peg down any loose bits, or make sure it's attached to the poles at the bottom.

I think it's brilliant, I haven't tried any other netting but the benefit with the Omlet stuff is that you can move the poles around to where you want, and it's quite flexible. I cut mine into three bits though, as the whole length was too big for me to move around.

It can also be electrified, should you want to do so. I recommend it.

How do you manage to do that pleaase?

Mine is ok but I have had escapes. BeBe flies over it and Tango crawls under loose bits.

It is also quite alarming seeing them get their heads almost stuck in the holes. What amuses me is that, when they are penned in, they try like mad to get to the grass on the other side "mmm much tastier!" However, when we do let them have the whole garden, the grass on the inside of the netting is clearly much tastier as they still stick their heads through! :?:

I have Omlet netting and am please with it. Was dubious at first as my girls would get over the 4ft fruit netting into the veg patch. Omlet netting is same height but only had 1 escape since last Winter when I put the eglu too close and they used it as a launch pad.

I have the Omlet netting around the veg patch to protect it while the scoffalots free-range the rest of the garden and so far they have not got past it (except once, when I left the entrance open because I though they weren't looking  ). They can get their heads quite a way in, so don't plant anything precious too close to the net.

My little monsters haven't yet tried getting over it and, considering they can happily get onto the Cube roof from a standing start, I'm not going to give them any ideas. Shh! :shh: Don't tell them.
