Omlet Staff hanns Posted August 7, 2008 Omlet Staff Share Posted August 7, 2008 Hi Everyone, A major TV Channel is making a new, prime-time series about multi-generational living. They’re looking for large groups of families and/or friends who are planning to pool resources in order to buy, and live in, a dream home. The idea is that things such as childcare, finances, working life and leisure time all become easier if they are shared. It also means people can live in an amazing house that they might otherwise not be able to afford on their own. Are you thinking of buying a dream home to live in with your extended family or a big group of friends? Will living like this allow you space to raise chickens? Have you already found a place to buy? Or are you still looking? If this sounds like you, please get in touch by emailing me on johannes@omlet.co.uk - Thank you!

dancing cloud
Me and my extended family in one house ? Welcome to the war-zone ... PS I love them dearly but, like all great works of art, they're best viewed from a distance
Cate in NZ
We have friends who do that, it appears to work well for them, but they are a small family, and it may be relevant that they live with her parents, not his . Nice house though and in a nice area and no worries about child care. No chickens though I'd last about a week if we tried it I reckon
redfrock
I was brought up like that - 3 generations in the one house as my grandad lived with us from the age of about 5 (that's me being 5, not him!) and he still does live with my parents, but then that is fairly typical in the Cypriot households, and indeed many mediterranean countries. It eventually become 4 generations when my sister had a child and then returned home for a while.
Christian
Sorry to the following posters! Moderating glitch! Broadband knocked out half way through posting My mum lives with us and has done since 1996 ( my dad died 1995) I guess that the house we are in is better than it would be had we not looked for a granny annexe. It works fine. Three major arguments in 12 years! Don't think that I (or DH) could live with MIL though! BTW - we now have chickens but I think that that is coincidental! Ooooh that sounds like us But we are out of the country for a few more days. It really is a dream house and we are there together, me Mum and James together with the 9 girls.... Oh might want to make that 11 sooon! If they are interested we are back on the 14th, but I might be around online before then me live with my family no way I have problems keeping my family in the same continent! These are the posts that my laptop edited and I couldn't get back. Sorry everyone!! *steps away from the 'puter*
Angels4
When my sister and BIL divorced, my sister needed help raising three small boys (all under the age of 10). I moved back to New England (after living all over the US for 24 years) The last place I lived was Chicago. Luckily I'm and Artistic Director/Educator for a major corporate system of hair salons and my company was able to make it happen. I lived with my sister in Massachusetts, but commuted to Chicago for work for 3 months (to Cicago on Sunday and back to Boston on Friday) now I live and work in New England. Guest
I forgive you Christian. We did it to share childcare. I had thrown out hubby and he was making my life hell over James and school, he was only supposed to pick him up one day a week but kept calling to say he "was too busy" Basically he would only make it if I gave him money! Mum was running back and forth to help out with James and she lived 30 mins away so it was taking HUGE chunks of her time. She was unhappy where she lived as the area wasn't what it used to be, I wanted to move away from the hubby situation too. So we started looking for a house with a granny annexe or potential to make one. By selling 2 3 bed houses and me taking on a small mortgage we were able to buy our dream home, it was at the absolute top of what we could afford and is a lovely 4 bed detached with attached FULLY SELF CONTAINED granny annexe. The Annexe is a cracking size with a large lounge, huge bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and a diningroom/conservatory - and its own front door which Mum NEVER uses!!! She lost 2 bedrooms but didn't lose any space. I have a lovely large house and a live in babysitter. She takes James to school every day and picks him up most nights although I can pick him up more next year. We also got a half acre garden and I knew I wanted Chickens - the rest is history...
