chicken-drummer
Hi All, Charlie has been broody for almost 6 weeks now. In the beginning, I did try to snap her out of it by turfing her out of the nestbox, dunking her in water and then sitting her on ice cubes - but all to no avail. So I then I thought I'd just let her get it out of her system - but I was only expecting her to be broody for about 3 weeks . Are some chickens broody for prolonged periods? Is there anything I can do which might stop her being broody (should I try sitting her on ice cubes again?) I'm sure it can't be much fun for her sat in the nestbox all day! Thanks
moochoo
I can only suggest setting up a broody cage. A wire cat carrier or similar is ideal. Pop it on bricks so she can't brood and the air can get under her. Make sure she still gets food and water. She'll need to be in it for minimum of 3 days and nights but if she's been broody for 6 weeks it may take longer for her to snap out of it. Good luck. Egluntyne
I agree....a broody cage should do the trick.
Stevie
I'll third that! Few days in a broody crate (an upturned puppy cage) normally does the trick!
