Yolky Posted August 12, 2008 Share Posted August 12, 2008 today one of the girls couldn't seem to make it to the nest box and so her eggy was layed about 1m from the eglu in the run...the run is 4m long eeekkkk how to get the eggy. I had to take the clips off get ds1 to entice them to the top of the run while I contortioned my hand into the run to retrieve the eggy. I thought perhaps that I was the only eglu keeper too fat/stiff to crawl in the run and titivate by hand. How do people manage the poops that the chooks have trodden into the grass? alison Posted August 13, 2008 Share Posted August 13, 2008 I just poo pick by hand, I'm not squeamish when I have been changing nappies for 22 years as a childminder, so have dealt with all sorts! I do find that they seem to 'disappear' in the run, the aubiose is magic. Mrs P Posted August 13, 2008 Share Posted August 13, 2008 I have mastered the art of the garden trowel and little plant pot for picking up poos but it doesn't half do you back in ! I was also wondering how people get the poo out of the eglu run without having to move the whole blooming thing like I do! Maybe Omlet could design a little door/gate in the side of the run to allow easy poo access. Simple but fab idea which would put an end to the endless inventing of new poo-collecting gadgets and that moment when you look in the run, spy the poo about half way along and think..." oooh, surely if I just stretch and pop my head through the gate...." before being rescued by the fire brigade in an embarrassing scenario where you are now wearing the run!. You know you've all thought about it! (I've even thought about training my neighbour's 3 year old daughter to crawl in and poop-scoop for me! ) Hopefully we are going to start construction of a lovely walk-in run soon so all such thoughts will be banished! I suspect they save them up and deposit them on the patio for me . I use a 49p Morrisons food scoop and flick the poos off the lawn into the flowerbeds. I have inadvertently harled the wall of the house before now though so I need to practice my aim . I use the bamboo cane trick to retrieve errant eggs too! It is a plastic fork thing on a long stick with an accompanying teeny weeny dustpan type of thing on an equally long stick.
