batty hen
I knew it wouldn't be long. Poor Mavis was just standing in the run all fluffed up. I noticed she was trying to pass something as about 1 inch of what looked like a stick was poking out of her vent. She tried to get it out herself as did others to no avail. I gently held the end of it and gently pulled. As she walked away about 4 inches of twisted grass came out, welded together almost like a rope. It must have been about 4mm thick. Will she be OK, is this normal. Oh goodness the worry has set in already.
cluckbok
Is your grass quite long? It can impact their crops if it's too long and cause digestion problems. Grass is best keep short/er. I hope she is ok. As long as she's pecking around normally and doesn't seem ill. I would keep a close eye on her and especially that area. Someone else may be along in a mo with more advice. At least it's out now!

batty hen
There was some longer grass at the edge of the run. Will move them tonight when they've all gone to bed. Mavis seems fine and shortly afterwards had her first dust bath along with Clarissa. They are all going to bed now. Thanks for the advice, really very much appreciated. Ain't Nobody Here
My girls have been freeranging a lot recently and I've noticed their poos are full of grassy bits. Nothing like what you describe though . I agree with the others, keep your grass short if you can.
