JulesL
Raquel has been laying for 2 weeks now. Her eggs are always around 52/53g (yes I am sad enough to weigh each egg). However today when I got home from work there was a large egg in the Eglu weighing in at 75g! Just looking at it you can see how much bigger it is to the others. My other two girls haven't laid yet although Betty is very red in the face, squats when you go near her and is a large bird compared to the other two. This makes me think that it may actually be her first egg. Raquel has laid for 5 days in a row so I wouldn't be surprised if she has taken today off. What are the chances that it is Betty's first egg or do you think Raquel has decided to go for a larger model?? Glad I'm not at work tomorrow so I can chook watch all day to see who the culprit is Hopefully I may get my first 2 egg day!
Purplemaniacs
Not sure but 75g seems to be very big for a first egg. When Ebony started to lay she would lay a bigger egg sometimes, it might be a double yolker Good luck with your chook watching, let us know if you find out the answer, hope you get a two egg day soon. The Brown Clan
You are not sad I weigh my eggs every day and record it in a book colour coded for each hen ( now thats sad )
JulesL
Hehehehe! Glad it isn't just me! I've got a chart in the kitchen where I'm logging all the eggs although only one row (for Raquel) has figures in it at the mo! Well first thing this morning when DP went to let them out Betty was sat in the nesting box. She has been back in several times since but no egg. Raquel has also been sitting in there and no egg from her either! I am convinced it was Betty's first egg. Definitely looks like I'm going to have a 2 egg day today
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations on the egg - good size too . I'm another egg anorak too . I've got a spreadsheet with a bar chart .
mrsallen08
Love the idea of a chart in kitchen!!! May have to get some stickers later on! Oh I do love a good excuse to go to paperchase!
JulesL
Hehehehe! I haven't quite got to the bar chart stage - may try that a little later!! Still no sign of an egg from Betty today. She hasn't been in the eglu either this afternoon. Back to chook watching tomorrow for me.
Milly
It's not necessarily obsessive to weigh every egg - it's useful to get to know what's normal and who lays what. Then you can tell if something is going wrong or changing. I use the egg tally spreadsheet (which automatically does a bar chart) which I got off the forum. I stopped using it for a bit but I find it's really useful for reference so went back to it. Milly
JulesL
Well today has been my first 2 egg day. I had a 50g from Betty and a 52g from Raquel. I'm convinced that Wed's large egg was Betty's first but I'm putting today's down as the official first as I know it was definitely her. JulesL
Yes, wish I'd set up a hen watch camera in the eglu - mind you, I'd be permanently glued to the computer then watching them!

Minnie the Moocher
Jules, I'm looking at your chooks' names. Are you a Corrie fan by any chance? I'm not admitting anything
JulesL
Yes I am indeed a corrie fan (although I don't remember Hilda - only from past clips!). My girls have beaten the 75g one and laid an 81g last week - don't know who though. I had a 39g and 81g laid on the same day - what a size difference!
