Pootle was getting a bit grubby, so we gave her a bath.

We used warm water and a bit of shampoo, and she seemed to not mind it, she didn't struggle anyway, but did look sorry for herself afterwards :

We use Thorne's near Sandy / Letchworth way.

EDIT: just seen you are in Kent, so that's not much use to you, sorry.

 

But, wherever you go... please make sure they are *certain* that they sell you a hen - silkies are one of the hardest chickens to sex - see my other threads for the problems we've had.

 

Thorne's have white silkies about to come on sale I believe, but their most recent batch of golden silkies was all cockerels. We were waiting for a golden one for months and have given up for now.

Thorne's is a nice place to visit. They are a rare breed poultry centre, so always have lots of interesting breeds there. They have a very large free ranging area too, and about a dozen or so outdoor fenced areas for "families" of pure breeds - some of the cockerels are *huge*!

 

At the moment they have lots of Sultans, which look like a good alternative to a silkie.

 

They also have a varied selection of hybrids to choose from.
