But, wherever you go... please make sure they are *certain* that they sell you a hen - silkies are one of the hardest chickens to sex - see my other threads for the problems we've had. Thorne's have white silkies about to come on sale I believe, but their most recent batch of golden silkies was all cockerels. sheik Posted September 4, 2008 Author Share Posted September 4, 2008 Thorne's is a nice place to visit. They are a rare breed poultry centre, so always have lots of interesting breeds there. They have a very large free ranging area too, and about a dozen or so outdoor fenced areas for "families" of pure breeds - some of the cockerels are *huge*! At the moment they have lots of Sultans, which look like a good alternative to a silkie.
