josephine77
I'm hoping someone can help! Winnie my Pepperpot has been broody now for about a week, I've been evicting her from the nest box, and yesterday left her shut in the run all day...but she still made a nest in the wet grass and sat there all day. I've read the info on here about dipping her tummy etc in cold water, and have done this 3 or 4 times over the course of the last few days - it doesn't seem to have worked! How long am I supposed to "dip" her in the water for? Although her feet are now lovely and clean, she's still Broody, so I wondered if I've not done it for long enough. Is she likely to snap out of it, or do you think she'll go the full 30 days? Any other tips??? Thanks, Frustrated of Leicestershire
Yolky
*joins your club* We are off out today to make a section for the broody in my walk in run which has no auboise flooring so just cold slabs and she can stay there till she is out of it. The other chooks have not been able to access the nest box for too long now
lisa33
Get a dog cage or something similar and lock her up in it. Make sure she has food and water but no nest. Make sure the air can circulate round her. You feel really evil doing it but 4 or 5 days in the broody cage will snap them out of it. Guest
Yep get a dog cage. It works and you have it ready for next time. Was also handy last night as my cat had to be kept confined - so she slept in it.
josephine77
Thanks everyone - sounds like I need to toughen up then - I was hoping to have to avoid the broody cage thing but I think it sounds like that's what's needed to snap her out of it...I don't fancy a month or more without her laying. How big a cage will I need? I'm presuming a cat carrying cage will be too small? J xxx
Ain't Nobody Here
I bought one of these. It worked within 3-4 days. Here it is in use

Here it is in use Thanks for that, sorry if this is a stupid question, but do you leave her in it at night as well?
Ain't Nobody Here
I move the whole thing into the shed at night .
lisa33
I leave my girl (whoever it may be) in all the time. I put the cage in the conservatory over night.
Steve.
I thought my Pepperpot had gone broody today ... she laid an egg at 8am ... and went back in at 11.30am for more ... resulting in a second egg at noon.
Janepie33
I thought they were only supposed to lay one egg a day?!
JulesL
I'm concerned that Betty has gone broody. When I got home from work yesterday (5pm) she was in the nesting box. She did come out for the evening but then she slept in it all last night. I got home at 12.30 today and she has been in there since I got home (nearly an hour). Not sure whether she is just trying to lay or whether she has gone broody. If I go and look now I'll probably find she has laid but I've just never known any of them sleep in the nesting box all night.
