Tiggy
I wont go into the details but my mum was separated from her parents & sibblings when she was a child & brought up by and aunt(who apparently was a bit strange - explains a lot) and has always been very bitter about it. She has always wondered what happened to her brother and a year ago I posted on the Genes Reunited web site & forgot about it. Yesterday I got a reply. moms brother & his daughter, I'm meeting them next week Mom is a little more reluctant I suppose she is a little taken aback
Chook n Boo Mum
Never been in this situation, but I hope it all turns out well for you and Mum comes round. Sha x
Ain't Nobody Here
Wow . I hope it all works out for you and your mum. It sounds like your mum might need a bit of time to get used to the idea. Try not to expect too much, in case you're disappointed. These things can be tricky. (I've had the experience of meeting my "birth" family and it was a success but I know it doesn't always work out.)
Egluntyne
Ditto to what ANH says. It worked out beautifully for me.....but it is a leap into the unknown. Useful advice that was given to me was to meet on neutral territory, and don't give too many personal details at first in case it turns out not to be what you are hoping for. All the best. Tiggy
thanks for the advice, we are meeting in a local pub to have a chat & a meal, my sister is coming with me, my new aunty sounds very sensible and has said that Mom & her brother need to sort things out between them, they both have each others contact numbers and we are going to leave them to it. Tiggy
I met my cousing last night we seemed to get on really well, her sibblings and mine sound very similar that is difficult her Dad & My Mom sound very alike again very difficult, it was so nice to know that her experiances were so similar to mine, she is one of 4 and the only one to have become independant of state benefits & build a career, just like me. She is also very much an outsider in her family, just as I am. We don't look alike at all but I think we will be friends, we are planning to meet again in my Dads local. Oh and her children all have red hair - I wondered where mine came from
