Autumn Success!

Recommended Posts

Today was the Autumn Village Show. I did pretty well at the Summer show but I was entering more veg this time - scary as the veg classes are VERY competitive and most of my summer success was in the cookery classes (which I never did post here - I may do a retrospective!).

I entered 9 different classes, and got a place in 6! I knew I wouldn't get anything for the rose I entered but I just found a half decent one so I thought it better to make up the numbers in that class rather than shove it in my mixed vase. I was also not surprised to place in the fuscia class as I didn't think any of mine were really at their best. My third non-place was in the tomato's which was a little disappointing but there were some excellent entries and lots of them. My Autumn roll of honour was as follows

1st Three stems mixed ornamental berries or fruits

1st 12 blackberries (V pleased as these were from my garden and I heard another entry saying she'd picked her from the hedgerow - which I think is cheating!)

1st beetroot (again pleasing as there were some of the serious veg growers entered in this category)

2nd vase of mixed flowers (thats 2nd of 2 entries! Mine were lovely but rather plonked in the vase, the other entry was much more artful)

3rd potatos (yes 3rd of 3. Not the best showing!)

3rd Runner beans (another of those highly competitive classes - woo hooo)

I'm looking forward to next year - I'd love to get a rosette for best in class one day.
