wundamutt
Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice or someone to make a decision for me. We've just ordered our new Eglu (arriving early Oct - very excited) and now we're trying to tackle the breed we should buy. We're after a pair of hybrids but that's as far as we've got! Once we start searching the web the choice goes mad, not only of breeds but also suppliers. Can anyone advise on both these counts? Thanks very much, James. half dozen
Welcome James, we are in Devon and got our six hybrids from Moon ridge farm near Crediton.Had our girls since june and simply love them to bits. All very good layers and get 5/6 eggs a day They do have web site at the farm.Good luck with choosing! My favorite is my amber link who is extremely friendly, cheeky and always near you! The blue marans are also gorgeous to keep,my sussex rock is the most timid and she has you chasing her to get her in
Lisa
Hi We got our girls from Moon Ridge Farm as well, just over 2 weeks ago. The girls are lovely and so funny but I would recommend three rather than two. Three fit well into an eglu and bond well together. If you only get two and God forbid something happens to one introducing other chickens seem to be a slow and sometimes difficult process. We have a Maran Cuivree, A Lohman Brown and a Light Sussex - all hybrids. The first two are already laying. Good luck with whatever you decide. If you would like to see ours together you are welcome to pm me.
Janty
I'd get three hybrids if I were you. That way, if anything happens to one of them, you will still have two and won't be left with a lonely hen.

chelsea
If you fancy and afternoon out and a look around some chickens the Devonshire Traditional Breed Centre just outside Credition is lovely. Loads of chickens, ducks etc with farm shop, plant shop and chicken accessories shop and restaurant.
