A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Does anyone have any egg pickling tips? I'm at the stage now where I might be bale to do some jars, but the last time I tried pickling eggs, I covered the boiled eggs with vinegar, sealed the jars and found they had got green mould on them within a month. I left about a centimetre of air at the top of the jar above the vinegar. Anyone know how I can prevent mould next time? Anna x
Cinnamon
Did you make sure the jars were sterile ? Thats the only reason I can think of for bacteria getting in & spoiling the eggs When I made mine I sterelized the jars & made sure the eggs were well packed in, & REALLY covered them in vinegar. Christian
I think that Cinnamon might be right. I did pickled quails eggs for my Dad last Christmas and he has only just finished them. 15 minutes in an oven 140c should sterilise the jars/or pop them in a microwave for a minute or two. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Thanks for the tips ! I had a big bubbling pot of water on the hob and dunked them with boiled tongs, then baked them at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. I must have got them contaminated. Bah. I will try again. I bet your quail eggs looked and tasted great! How many eggs do they lay a year? They are so pretty! Anna x
