cube vent hole question (not about "gaps")

Recommended Posts

Hi,

new here but have kept bantams for a few years.

I'm thinking of getting a cube for our bantams - could someone tell me how big the vent holes are and where they are on the cube?

Want to know as we have mink here from time to time and need to know if the cube will keep my little treasures safe!

Also how long is the waiting time for a cube (any colour) at the moment?

Thanks all!

mrsj

there is a "slit" style vent on the front of the cube on the right hand side of the door.

There are also the same style vents at the top of the back panel and some narrow gaps at the bottom of the back panel where the drawers push in and out. Im sorry i dont have the dimensions to hand.

I dont have any experience with mink, are they like rats and can squeeze through really narrow spaces?

Sorry mrsj, only just logged on and now it's too dark for me to see how big they are. From memory they are just little slits at the top of the rear door and one at the front, they can't be more then 2 or 3cms so I can't imagine that a mink would be able to get in to your babies.

i'm sure someone else with more memory/knowledge or even garden lights will be able to give you a accurate answer soon.

Have to say i've only just got my chickens but i'm finding the maintenance of the cube an absolute doodle even with the huge amounts of poo generated by my sweeties. :D

thank you both very much, I'm sure they'd be safe then! Haven't seen the mink for some time (since the start of June) so hoping that he's been got by one of the farmers! It had beautiful fur but nasty fangs

I'm glad the cubes are easy to maintan, I am finding it a bit tricky at the moment with 3 little wooden houses and a 6 and a half month old baby!
