Poorly chicken

We need to take Lily to the vet as she may have a foot infection,& after a quick chat with the vet this morning it seems that if they drain her foot & dress it she will need to be kept isolated from the other hens.

So,I have a MK2 Eglu in a chicken pen,& I also have a MK2 run which is unusd.

I also have a MK1 Eglu with no run,which is unused at the moment.

The question is will my other 4 hens squeeze into the MK1 if I put it into the pen,leaving the MK2 & run for Lily?

Or will the MK 2 run fit onto the MK1 Eglu.

 

Alternatively I can keep her in the broody cage,but it is not very big.

The mark 2 Eglu is a bit bigger than the mark one, but you should be able to cobble the run onto the mark one well enough for your needs.

I agree with Claret I'm sure you can fit the run on to the MK1 somehow.

Poor Lily is so angry at being in the broody cage

Ruby was for about 20 minutes, then she shut up! I'm giving her one more day in the broody cage to try and shake her out of it, then she'll be abck in the run with the others. I don't want to leave her in there too long.

Phil spoke to the outlaws, who are experienced chook keepers. They said that stopping them going broody in this heat is impossible.

 

I did hose Rubes down yesterday evening when I was cleaning the broody cage. We'll see how she is this evening.

I'm finding Kitty is less hot, but still pretty determined to brood after a night in the cage. The noise in the morning is a lot better though, so she's staying in the cat box at night until she gives it up.
