HENthusiastic
I was just wondering, does a chicken just get the urge and have to lay an egg, with no choice about it. Or can they think, oh I dont think I can be bothered right not, I thik Ill have something to eat and then lay one in about an hour or so? No particular reason, I just often find myself wondering. moomin
Sometimes one of my girls is in the Eglu laying when I take the Porridge bowl out in the morning, and she'll hear me opening the run door and come running out 'cos she doesn't want to miss the nice things I put on the top!! So I think they can hold on a bit
Sandychick
I've often wondered this! From what I have seen, there is a stage where they just have to lay it! My three were doing their jumping up and down at the run door routine, waiting to be let out today. I opened the door.....two hurtled out towards the porrage, and Pepper ran into the Eglu for some urgent egg laying. It must have needed laying there and then as she would never usually be third at the treat bowl!
Rona
My Merlot is the greedy guts here and she has been known to come rushing out the eglu when food arrives, then pause briefly halfway across the run to lay an egg before pushing to the front of the queue. . I suppose they get to a point of no return.
