helenmb
Was wondering if you experts out there can tell me about 1st eggs. I found our first egg yesterday afternoon, layed in the pen, which is very small 31g. It looks tiny compared to a normal size L egg we have been buying from our local organic farm. My two old girls used to lay 'normal' sized eggs from the first day we had them - think they were a bit older than the breeder told us they were but I didn't know what to look out for then. Nothing layed today, our new girlies are just coming up to 19 weeks old. I have popped a china egg (bought via ebay for £1.05) in the nest box yesterday to hopefully encourage laying in the eglu. So, the question is, is a small egg normal for a 1st egg (I as this as it seems to often be the reverse on the posts, as in double yolkers), and is 18-19 weeks old not too early to be laying? Wish I knew who layed the egg so I can keep an eye on her but typically the only day I haven't worked from home since we got them and that was the day the 1st egg arrived Thanks in advance for your advice - H
Sandychick
Congratulations on the first egg and yes it's normal! Two of mine layed small eggs to start with - about 35g. They gradually get bigger in the first couple of weeks. The third one started off with a 57g egg.

helenmb
Phew - thats a relief thanks for your comments. Isn't it funny how our girls turn us into anxious parents!
