Guest
All of my family use AVG. Mine updates every morning. I also use ZoneAlarm and AdAware. All of them are excellent and I have had no problems at all in 6 years.

AVG is ace - I've used it for years now and never had a proper virus attack my machine... The great advantage is that it is nothing like Norton - which appropriates your entire machine!! (and I'm sure seeps down through your computer desk and into the carpet as well!) Phil
Craig
A few more links slightly off topic but useful still. All free. You may already know of the TPS http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ They have a list of people that do not want cold calling etc. from sales calls. If they do cold call you once registered there breaking the law Just mention TPS if they do, they tend to run away! MPS http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ Similar to TPS but with post, no one free credit cards for me! Finally (note the similar link!) FPS http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/fps/ Same again but with Faxes. PurpleHen
Could I add one more here please? I am a big fan of anything not Microsoft, and I am now encouraging people at work to switch to Open Office rather than use Microsoft Office. The main advantage is, it's free! The main problem is that if you do complex things in Word or Excel - you MAY not be able to do them with Open Office. However if you are a basic user it's great and easy to pick up. Its certainly better than trying to use other Word Processing programs such as Wordperfect etc. Click on the big green button: Open Office PS - You can save any documents you create in a format which normal Microsoft prgrams will be able to open and edit. PurpleHen
And here's another one - this is a good way of double checking for virus, adware etc programs on your machine, it's a free online scanning tool - which means if you have a virus which has conned your anti-virus software into thinking everything is OK, this will find it. Not a good way of keeping on top of things as this is sorting the problem out once you have it - rather than preventing the problem to start with....
