Marmalade - why so hard?

Recommended Posts

OK I bought some oranges thinking I would make marmalade. I figured it was like making jelly and just chucking in some peel, then I looked at a recipe.

How different would it be if I boiled up the oranges then strained through a jelly bag and chucked in some grated peel when I was doing the boil up of the juice?

Why isn't that how you make marmalade??

Of course I don't actually LIKE marmalade but I thought it would make nice pressies. (I have NO IDEA who is getting all these pressies though - I don't actually have anyone to give them to!)

Me Either!!! Ha ha ha!!:lol:

Almost all of my Christmas present list is made up of children, they probably won't appreciate Cinnamon spiced vodka or picallili!! A lot of the adults we don't buy for anymore as we buy for their children instead so having pickled, preserved and jammed as well as having half an off licence bubbling away in my cupboards with a view to making these wonderful, festive hampers, I find that in fact, I only require about 4!! Hee hee!! Still, it won't go to waste thats for sure.

By the way I tried to make marmalade once - very nice orange tasting toffee it turned out to be!

Pengy, I used a marmalade 'kit' from Tesco & it was a doddle to make,as well as being really delicious.

I added a good glug of Brandy to it 8)

It worked out to be good value for money as well as being fun to make.

I know you need to use Seville orabges for marmalade, which are only in season in February I think :?
