Alfred
I think it would make the eglu run better to have an extra door in the side of the run, closer to where the eglu is. Then you could reach better to add extra food sources etc.
chickencam
I agree a lift up panel near the Eglu would make access easier. We have a run extension so the door of the run is even further from the Eglu
Mrs Slats
Oh, that would help with more flexible options on where to site your hens too. I'd like a small door on the hole into the nest box (cube) so I can block it off at night. t the moment I have to stick a flower pot in there. Some roosting bars in the run would be a good add on too.
helenmb
Alfred, I have always thought that using the Eglu run made it very difficult to get 'up close and personal' to your girls unless they free ranged a lot. I had one with 2 extensions - impossible to move easily on my odd shaped lawn and very heavy, so we gave up a built our own walk in run - more expense but I feel so much more able to interact with them when I can't let them out. This would be a good thing for the Omlet guys to provide as an add on - have always thought this - maybe as there have been some good conversions to the Cube run someone will design one for the Eglu? Mutrix Farmers
An extra door would make it easier to rake the bark level after an over enthusiastic hole digging session. Our rake only reaches so far!!
Redwing
I have to admit that I have been tempted to cut a section out of the Eglu run for access to chickens and to rake the woodchip over and then put it back in place with cable ties for hinges and run clips to secure the rest of it but I am worried about compromising the sceurity of the run by cutting the wire. The Dogmother
Both of these suggestions have been mentioned to the Omlet team before; perhaps something is in the pipeline..... Mrs Slats, I use the smallest size tub trug to block the hole through to the cube nest box - it fits perfectly
Patricia7455
I haven't got any hens yet and I am saving up for a cube, but to me it seems like a big jump from an eglu (3-4 hens) to a cube (10 hens). I wonder if they are planning anything a bit more medium?
The Dogmother
You don't 'have' to keep 10 hens in a cube. 10 hens is only an estimate of you are letting them free range all day. The run, without the extension certainly wouldn't be big enough for 10 hens as it's only just bigger than the eglu run.
chichi
i'm in total agreement with the 'hole in the run near the eglu' idea. at the moment i have to stick my hand through the egg hatch to clear the entrance of wood chipings in order to close the door properly at night. sorry eglu guys.. it's a brilliant invention, i feel at bit cheeky suggesting improvements
