blackgold
I was at the Omlet advanced course today and one of the caged bantam hens laid an egg... I have taken a couple of pictures and put them on my collie talk spaces... Cant wait for mine and Rozs chickens to start .... It was quite emotional as the hen turned around and gently pecked it......

Ain't Nobody Here
Lucky you . I've never actually seen an egg laid (but did put my hand in under a hen once and got a slightly sticky egg in my hand )
blackgold
we were allowed to hold the egg and it wasnt sticky just very warm We were told that eggs should not be eaten the day they are laid as well. Forgot why.

Ain't Nobody Here
We've often eaten eggs while they're still warm (obviously after cooking them first!) Perhaps it was the rule about eggs being better for boiling after a few days?
