pickles
hi all got two lovely duckies, currently living in a converted plastic wendy house and eglu run. Just about to get my hands on a rablu and wondered if any of you have any tips on keeping them clean, bedding etc. At the minute i line a puppy cage tray with newspaper then with chopped straw and also have the bottom of a pet carrier in there also lined and with straw. they like to snuggle up in there together at night, hence why i though they would be alright tucked up in an eglu. do any of you keep the food and water in the eglu at night as well as in the run during the day? Blues08
Hi, I think if you keep the food in overnight they'll make a mess, might be just as well to leave it in the run. Lots of good info on the Practical Poultry forum as well. I'm looking for a pair of Buff orps, did you breed yours or get them from a breeder, I have been in touch with a breeder quite close to me but want to keep my options open. pickles
hi there i hatched the buff orp chickens myself. I got the eggs from thornes, in letchworth. I did try another lady in amptill her eggs were from show birds, but the weather was "Ooops, word censored!" the week we got the eggs from her and were not fertile. Thornes have another bath of youung ones they haev hatched ready to be sold soon, might be worth a call. Sorry not sure where you are located? you can google their address and no. or i can email it to you. Once i hatched them i then took them back every few weeks to ensure that they were vaccinated. i know some people dont vaccinate pure breeds, but im paranoid as i had to put my very first lot of chickens down. char1
i don't keep ducks in an eglu but i wouldn't keep food in their house at night. They don't eat in the dark and it would become very messy if they move around and would attract mice/ rats
