Guest
Grammar thread seems to have disappeared again - before I had time to post the solution.... puzzle was: "Sir, between friends, I understand your overbearing disposition; a man even with the world is above contempt, whilst the ambitious are beneath ridicule." From Dick & Fitzgerald, The Book of 500 Curious Puzzles, 1859. Phil

Egluntyne
I was nowhere near. I had even printed it off and had cut the words out and had tried several times to arrange them so that they made some sort of sense. I had got the first and last words right. That is something I suppose. Edited for typo. Edited October 28, 2008 by Guest

jackiepoppies
I hadn't got a clue on that one Is there any reason why the grammar thread has disappeared? Jackiex

Looney
I would have never put those words together in that order! I admit that the solution doesn't make too much sense to me either!

jlo
I had worked out a few of the phrases but coudn't put the whole thing together. As usual, with Dingbat type puzzles, when I saw the solution I was kicking myself for not having worked it all out!
Angels4
I was nowhere near. I had even printed it off and had cut the words out and had tried several times to arrange them so that they made some sort of sense. I did the same.
