ruby
Help/advice. we have had our chickens for just under 3 weeks, but have become over run with rats. we have the omlet run and then a bigger run and they are only ever fed in there, the food supply is in dustbins so - unacessible. with a bit of simple investigation we have worked out they are coming under the fence from next door. Next door is....... a lived in but neglected property (maintenance and cleaning...) do the chickens have to go? no point approaching neighbour as they are probably unaware and would not do anything about the situation. help! sarah-w
Hi No don't get rid of your chickens. By the sound of it they have been setting up home next door for a while! Make sure you take the chickens food in at night and clear away anything they have spilled. Its probably worth giving your local council a call to see if they will deal with the rats, failing that you could lay some trap/rat bait yourself. sarah-w
We have been lucky so far and not seen any. Although my mum and dad live about 100 yds away and they caught a rat hanging off their bird feeder yesterday-in broad daylight cheeky little swine, needless to say the bird feeder has now gone! ..lay a little egg for me
Our cats have recently brought in two rats...they despatched them themselves fortunately...don't fancy trying to get a rat out of the house
Cuckoos Nest
Egluntine I like the look of that feeder, only thing I would worry about is the Bokashi and Garlic all falling to the bottom? If you get one let us know how you get on with it , Has anyone else got one? We always bring the grub feeder in at night, this would save a bit of work, and free up the grub for the girls grit.
