Sunshine
I have offered to post this for a friend of my mums who has chickens. Just lately her chickens have been laying what she describes as wrinkly, soft shelled eggs. She has had them for a few months now and their eggs started off fine/normal. Is there anything that could be wrong with them?-I'm not sure if its all of them or only one. Hopefully someone can come along with some advice that i can pass onto her. Thank You Emma
Milly
Are they moulting? One of mine has kept on laying eggs while moulting (the others have stopped altogether), but some of them have been soft shelled as it's obviously quite a lot of effort to grow new feathers and lay eggs. One thing to try is adding extra calcium to their diet - oyster shells (the place that sells the feed will usually sell them) are a good source of calcium. Or some people bake and crush used egg shells, and feed them back to their hens. There are quite a few threads on this topic from people who are more expert than I am, if you do a search (it's not an uncommon problem). Redwing
Limestone powder is supposed to be good, you can get it from horse feed shops
