Loving, knowledgeable home sought for two rabbits

Recommended Posts

After much thought, I am tentatively looking for a new home for my two mini-lops. I have a new job which is taking up (too much!) more of my time than anticipated, and I'm just not giving them as much attention as they deserve. By the time I get home from work I have got time to clean them out and feed them, give them a quick fuss and health check and that's it. I stress that they have a very good lifestyle - they have a five-star, two storey hutch and first thing in the morning I let them out to free-range in our secure garden during the day, and as noticed I give the hutch a complete clean out and check their health every day - so they are not in any way neglected! I just feel I don't have as much time to sit out and play with them as I used to - and they are such lovely rabbits this is a real shame.

A bit of info - they are pedigree mini lops, brother and sister from the same litter. Albert is a blue otter and Victoria is red-eyed white (I don't know how to post pics on here but could email some on request). They were born in February 2006 and are in very good health (at their recent vaccination the vet said they were the healthiest rabbits he had ever seen!). Both have been neutered and they are a bonded pair so must live together. They are happy to be picked up - Albert is not keen on long cuddles but doesn't struggle when being handled and will lie on his back without complaint. Victoria is the most affectionate rabbit ever and will happily snuggle on your knee. She loves being stroked too. They are very active bunnies and it is essential that a new home for them would either provide them with the opportunity to safely free-range that they have now, or at least provide them with a large run. I would hate them to be shut up in a hutch all day and could not allow this. They could live in an eglu - I had one for them, but my garden was too small so it ruined the lawn. They did tend to live in the run though and use the house as a litter tray. They are litter-trained and do all their wees in a tray in the hutch, although they do scatter poos everywhere.

They could live as house-rabbits, but I would warn anyone considering this that they are destructive - I had them as house-rabbits when they were babies and they took a liking to wallpaper - and whilst they reliably wee in a litter-tray, they do scatter poos about (I believe this is territorial behaviour). If anyone has a conservatory or other such room with wooden floors and no wallpaper this would be possible though.

Above all, I want them to live somewhere where their new owners will really love them and fuss them - I love them to bits and feel I'm just not giving them the attention they deserve. I really want them to have a wonderful home so am only going to post on this forum, where I know there are lots of knowledgeable people - I'm not going to put an ad in my local paper or anything where I don't know who will be having them. I will keep them myself rather than let them go to anyone I think won't look after them. I will happily give away with them their hutch, littertray, food bowl etc - I don't want to make any money out of this, I just want them to be in the right home. If anyone is interested or wants more info, please post here or PM me. Thanks very much and apologies for the long post.

I'm sure you've given it good thought, but it's a shame you have to rehome them, you sound like you do everything for them. The rabbits have each other for company they dont necessarily need a lot of attention from us humans! Have you though about attaching a permenant run to the hutch so that they have more space whilst you are not about?

Hope you find a 5* home for them.
